What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do (review)

There is an important difference between ‘out’ and ‘through’ – particularly when it comes to our health ( both physically and spiritually ). We tend to seek immediate relief from our problems and/or symptoms but more often than not it is better in regards to the long term to go through something so that the effects are long lasting rather than eventually repeating or reoccurring.

“But like your physician, He [God] is less concerned about your immediate comfort than your long term health and growth. This is why we read in the Bible, ‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.’ James 1:2-3. God’s way is not out of your problems but through them. That’s how we learn from our difficulties and find God’s way.”

Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend provide in this book 8 principles for finding God’s way through life’s challenges. It is a short book, but that’s because it gets straight to the point. They present it in a gentle manner that’s easy to grasp a hold of and encouraging while backing it up with God’s own words.

A lot of these principles I was already aware of mainly because I have grown up with them in a loving Christian environment. But to the long term believer this book was a good reminder of these principles, and to the new or young believer a good place to begin. I enjoyed the book, even if it only took me an hour to read it.
